My System Specs

It is still unclear who needs those 1000W power supplies because a 750W unit is quite enough even for this very top-end configuration. A 1000W PSU is two times the required wattage, which is obviously redundant.
Already been mentioned, but it's worth mentioning many more times........

This is the final conclusion, and is based on a single vid card, stock clock computer.

Pulling 500W at stock really begs for the answer of what a machine like that would do if both the Video and CPU were overclocked (my understanding is that power usage goes up exponentially once we start to OC), and running FAH GPU + Boincing on the cores.

I'm currently running 275/280 cards in my rigs under those conditions, and while I'm comfortable with the quality 750s I'm running, I wouldn't be comfortable with anything less, and would really wonder about them if I were to add an extra vid card to each one.

The other point here is the availability of quality 500+ watt PSUs vrs 750s. If you look at the marketplace, a quality 750 can almost always be found for around the same price as a quality 600+, hence the recommendation of 750 watt PSUs is the norm.
