Personally brand name and amperage on the 12v rail are the main things I look for in a PSU when I go shopping. Anything in the 500-800w range is plenty for my needs, and I think the OP is in the same boat as I am. Corsair has excellent rma support so I would give an rma a try with or without the reciept.
Buy a new psu and sell the returned unit when it comes back if you get the reciept. If you can't find it call them anyways and see what they can do. You unit is not beyond the warranty period, as it is warrantied for 5 years.
