EMT does nto work with american banks, when you receive one you have a choice of depositing it to the major canadian banks (all of the minus Banque nationale and Laurentian ? not sure about that one) not in any american bank. Unless maybe if you are in a american branch of a canadian based Bank.
Just offer him Paypal + fees.
