Personally id say go with the e8400, quads are really only used in maybe 5 games, video editing, file compression, that kind of stuff. It WILL be better if you have tons of photoshop stuff open and are multitasking like a mad man though. Sure you can oc the q6600 to the same clock speeds as the e8400, but it works both ways, if you want to oc you could oc the e8400 to 3.8-4ghz. As far as coolers go the xigmatek one mentioned is great, itll run 2-3 degrees higher than the vendetta 2 but its about $15 cheaper last i checked
